An Impromptu Visit to the Valley of the Moon in Jordan

How a surprised birthday trip to Wadi Rum turned into my lifetime memory

I booked a 10-day trip to Jordan to celebrate my birthday. As usual, I didn’t have a detailed itinerary. There is always one or two things I absolutely want to do on each trip; but besides that, I always just play it by ear.

The plan was to start my journey from southern Jordan to first see Petra by Night, then stop by the Dead Sea on my way up to try floating on water and getting a mud bath, and spend my last few days up in northern Jordan where I’d fly home.

As usual, after booking my flights, I posted my travel dates on a cultural exchange app and asked the locals for hidden gems that only they would know about, and possibly meet up with some of them if we found each other interesting.

Yazeed was a young gentleman living in a city called Irbid in northern Jordan. He saw my post and we started chatting six weeks prior to my trip.
